How Konecta redefines the meaning of diversity at work. What does it mean to truly belong?

Beyond just hiring and tolerating, we strive for a workplace where you are seen, respected, and celebrated for who you truly are, by your colleagues, and by the company you build with every day. At Konecta, inclusion is part of our DNA, connecting our countries, cultures, and communities. From Lima to Buenos Aires to Madrid to South Africa and beyond, inclusion shapes our decisions, our hiring, our leadership, and our impact.

To make this work, Konecta is building and constantly improving a DE&I model based on different pillars, including LGBTQ+, disability, multiculturality, older adults, and gender equity:

  • Ongoing training through our local and global internal learning platform
  • Visible sponsorship by leaders who act as DE&I champions
  • Alliances with social organizations to expand our impact beyond the business
  • Employee stories and testimonials, shared across teams to break down stereotypes

But above all, it’s about creating a culture where no one has to hide. When people feel safe and valued, they do their best work while helping others do the same.

Let’s take a closer look at how our teams in Peru and Argentina are turning this commitment into measurable action.

Peru: a decade of InKluye, a culture of respect

Back in 2012, long before the word “inclusion” became a trending topic, Konecta in Peru launched InKluye, a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) program that began by supporting people with disabilities. Today, it has evolved into a much broader and more ambitious initiative.

InKluye supports:

  • LGBTQ+ community members
  • Senior people
  • Migrants
  • People with disabilities
  • And other traditionally marginalized groups

From inclusive bathrooms in all our offices to marriage and adoption leave available equally to LGBTQ+ employees, Konecta in Peru is embedding inclusion into every layer of the employee experience. This commitment extends to health plans (EPS - private health insurance plans that provide comprehensive medical coverage, including services tailored to the needs of transgender employees) that cover the needs of transgender employees, and DEI training modules that address unconscious bias, myths about the LGBTQ+ community, and respectful language.

Konecta also promotes allyship through formal sponsorship programs, where senior leaders actively support and advocate for our DE&I actions, including LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Our commitment has been recognized by key organizations:

  • Pride Connection Peru: awarded “Promotion of a Culture of Inclusion” (2022) for our transgender inclusion practices, and “Most Challenging Inclusive Benefit” (2023) for our EPS plan adapted for trans employees.
  • Presente Awards (Peru): honored as “One of the Most Trans-Inclusive Workplaces” (2022) and “Top Company for LGBTQ+ Talent” (2023).
  • Great Place to Work Peru: listed among the “Best Workplaces for Diversity & Inclusion” consistently since 2020.
  • APEXO (Asociación Peruana de Experiencia de Cliente): winner of the “Best Diversity Balance” award for three consecutive years (2021–2023).

These awards are reminders that building inclusive environments takes intentionality, courage, and leadership.

We’ve had over 220 LGBTQ+ employees join our teams since 2012. But even more important than numbers are the stories, like Carlos and Angie.

Carlos joined in 2019. Openly gay, creative, and full of energy, he found a place where he didn’t need to “tone it down.” He’s now leading Communications and Social Responsibility initiatives, proving that authenticity is powerful.

Angie started as an operations advisor in 2017 and began her gender transition while at Konecta.

“This company gave me the confidence to live my identity with pride”

Angie, Team Leader & Inculsion Ambassador

Argentina: Celebrating pride 365 days a year

In Argentina, the commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion is equally strong and Pride is an everyday reality.

Konecta in Argentina has created a workplace where diversity is celebrated not just during Pride Month, but as a continuous commitment over the years.

In 2023, the team launched local initiatives aligned with Konecta’s global DE&I framework. These included awareness campaigns, internal communications to challenge stereotypes, training sessions on inclusive language and unconscious bias, as well as cross-functional sponsorship programs. Building on past work, Konecta has consistently participated in Buenos Aires Pride, partnered with NGOs to boost LGBTQ+ employability, and cultivated internal champions for inclusion.

Our journey took a big leap in 2024 with the launch of Orgullosamente DE&I, a comprehensive program channeling all our diversity actions across gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and generations.

One key insight shaped this: 25% of our team members identify as part of the LGBTIQ+ community.

This has inspired tangible actions:

  • Marching together: In 2024, for the first time, Konecta in Argentina marched as a company in Pride parades nationwide in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Mendoza. We’re going to march again in 2025, showing visible, continuous and collective support.
  • Pride Connection Argentina: We proudly hosted Pride Connection in July 2024, creating a space for businesses to share best practices on LGBTIQ+ inclusion. Our colleague Máxima Chamorro spoke at the March plenary for Trans Visibility Day, sharing her powerful story as part of Konecta.
  • Travesti-Trans hiring commitment: Our recruitment processes include a firm focus on Travesti-Trans talent, reinforcing our role as an employer of choice for all identities.
  • Gender transition protocol: This Pride Month, we’re set to launch our Gender Transition Protocol, created in collaboration with Fundación Mocha Celis.
  • Employee Resource Group (ERG): We’re launching our first ERG focused on LGBTIQ+ colleagues to foster dialogue, visibility, and support year-round.

Inclusion as a daily practice

As Konecta grows, so does our responsibility. We continue to invest in policies, partnerships, and people that move us closer to true equality and not just during Pride Month, but all year long.

To the quiet breakthroughs. The brave first days. The bold transitions. The workplaces where being yourself is the start.
